I’m pretty sure the 11-month-old wanted to talk to me, but due to his age, he was only able to make loud, grunting noises. I tried to make conversation for a while. I even sang a few songs and played a couple of numbers on the piano, but I only received perplexed faces and furrowed brows.
When left to their own devices, the two boys seemed hell bent on knocking down every toy they could get their hands on while the 11-month-old continued making his grunting sounds. Then, eyes still trained awkwardly on me, the 18-month-old paused to fill his diaper, adding his own sounds to the mix. As they towered over their toy buildings and construction equipment, knocking things down and grunting, I was reminded of the old Godzilla movies. It was then that I stopped trying to converse with them and just sat back and enjoyed the show.
