Snow days in our house are not all about bacon and binge T.V.. My husband is a little, uh, quirky about the snow. His obsession began in 1996 when we received an unusual foot of snow. Walter and I drug our sled up to the nearest grocery store. We didn't need a thing. It was just an excuse to get out and that’s when the bacon tradition began. I can’t recall exactly what got him out in the yard that day. We had not yet had our daughter. I think maybe he just wanted to play in the snow but was too old to join the other kids at the sledding hill. Instead of a snowman, Walter built a stegosaurus.
In addition to the snow wonderland he created for Allie, he always found time to sculpt something fabulous for the neighbors to enjoy.
Even the snow haters find something to love when Walter works his magic in the front yard. He is a frequent topic of conversation on the weather blogs , Facebook, and even the local news. School buses slow down to look at his work; local school children have had field trips to our front yard. As soon as snow is predicted, he starts receiving ideas and requests for his next sculpture.
