Happy Birthday, Midge!
I joined the church ladies group for dinner last night at a local restaurant. It was so fun to sit at a table with women of disparate ages and phases. We fifty somethings arrived first, so wound up at one side of the table. Our senses of humor all jibe and we have a great time together. Also sitting among us was the group organizer, a 35 year old mother of two elementary age children. She talked mainly about school sports and activities, while we fifties discussed the college paths of our own children.
Next to arrive were two twenty somethings, teachers at our church school. They proceeded to talk about other people’s children, but segued into discussions about beer, weddings, and an upcoming relocation. Nestled among were two very different women in their late sixties. One dressed quite conservatively, with a needlepoint cross on her turtleneck; the other wearing a sparkly scarf over a brightly colored outfit.
There were many different conversations going on at the table. I’m sorry I was unable to hear them all due to the din of the crowded restaurant. But it was wonderful just to see them all, different ages, different places in their life, different personalities, all sharing a common love of Christ and a good meal.
