I’m completely stealing from a friend’s blog here to answer her question “How cold is it?” Just saying single digit temperatures makes me giggle. This morning, it’s five. Degrees. Fahrenheit. And that’s without taking the wind chill into account. For some silly reason, I sit in front of our home’s only single pane window through which I can literally feel the breeze. The dog is staring at me, wanting his morning walk. I think he will have to wait until it’s at least two-syllables out. Like seven, or hopefully even eleven.
The street is quiet because they have cancelled school for the second day this week. The first closure was for snow. I get that. Today they closed because they don’t want kids waiting at the bus stop. Are parents sending their kids out in short sleeves? I’m pretty sure in colder states that the kids are well equipped to stand at the bust stop. Those kids will grow up to be a lot tougher than ours.
Fairfax County had school yesterday. It was also cold then. But our creative and whiny students started tweeting #closefcps, which began trending, and was then picked up by the local news. Hence today’s closure. I don’t think our superintendent has developed a very thick skin when it comes to social media. These same kids who think it’s too cold for school will wake up sometime around noon today and start heading out to Chipoltle wearing nothing but leggings and cotton hoodies. I guess it’s never too cold for Chipoltle.
