Slice of Life Tuesday
I must admit, there have been times in life when I may not have not wished the best for my daughter. When she was a toddler and had a fever, she would rest so peacefully and sleep like a champ. It was at these times when I found I could enjoy a snuggle without her wriggling away. Is it terrible to say I enjoyed the few times she had a fever?
When Allie was about 6, she tried soccer for the first time. I was so happy when she found no talent on the field and no desire to take the sport to the next level. (which I have learned from watching the parents of talented players is a year-round commitment, plus weekend travel to exotic locations such as Scranton. ) I was happy she was not a star athlete on the soccer field.
This week, when we toured a prestigious and very expensive college, I secretly willed her to hate it. I want her to have a college experience like I had. No stress – a truly fun four years at a far less-expensive venue. But then, as the tour guide talked about mind-numbing topics such as heat resistance and robotics, I glanced over at my daughter’s beautiful eyes and saw not just comprehension, but complete fascination.
